Nikolai Nikolaevich Shavga is a vertebrologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and Associate Professor, holding the highest professional qualification in orthopedic traumatology. He has over 18 years of experience in pediatric orthopedics, traumatology, and vertebrology. He completed advanced training in Moscow, Kharkiv, Minsk, and worked in Africa, including a three-month assignment in Sudan.

He was the first in Moldova to use Cotrel-Dubousset transpedicular instrumentation to treat scoliosis and spinal injuries, performing over 100 surgeries. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles and holds 11 Moldovan patents for innovations in conservative treatment and corrective spinal surgeries.

His main focus is diagnosing and surgically treating children and teenagers with severe spinal deformities, including cases with neurological complications, using segmental instrumentation. He also treats spinal pain and neck subluxations with manual therapy, advanced traction techniques, and modern antihomotoxic medicines. Moreover, he treats injuries and both congenital and acquired musculoskeletal diseases.

He graduated from the Pediatric Faculty of Chișinău State Medical Institute in 1992. From 1992 to 1993, he completed an internship in pediatric traumatology and orthopedics at the Maternal and Child Health Protection Center in Chișinău. Between 1993 and 1994, he worked as an orthopedic traumatologist at Children’s Polyclinic No. 6 in Chișinău.

In 1994, he became a research associate in the Neuroorthopedics Department at the Research Institute of Maternal and Child Health Protection. In 1999, he defended his candidate dissertation titled “Chronic Atlanto-Axial Subluxations in Children: Clinical Features, Diagnosis, and Treatment.”

Since 2000, he has worked as a research associate in the Department of Surgical Correction of Congenital Diseases at the same institute. From 2002 to 2005, he worked as an orthopedic traumatologist at the Children’s Municipal Hospital.

In 2005, he was promoted to senior research associate in the “Surgical Infections in Children” Department at the Pediatric Surgery Department of Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. He received the title of Associate Professor in 2009.

In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation on spinal disorders, titled “Dysplasia of the Lumbosacral Region in Children: Clinical and Diagnostic Features and Orthopedic-Surgical Treatment.”

During his career, he has mastered techniques and successfully performs surgical procedures for various injuries and diseases of the spine and musculoskeletal system. He holds the highest qualification category in traumatology and orthopedics. He has also worked in Africa (Sudan).

Nikolai Nikolaevich is the author of over 100 scientific publications on various spinal diseases and injuries, as well as orthopedic pathology. He holds 14 patents for inventions.

In 2009, he completed multiple specialized training courses at several international vertebrology centers, including: the M. I. Sitenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (Kharkiv), the N. N. Priorov Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (Moscow), Belarusian State Medical University (Minsk), the Federal Agency for High-Tech Medical Care “Reconstructive Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Academician G. A. Ilizarov” (Kurgan, Russia), the Open Medical Institute’s Bone & Joint Surgery program (Weill Cornell Clinic, Salzburg), and the Spinal Surgery Seminar in Austria.

N. N. Shavga has participated in numerous scientific conferences and exhibitions both in the Republic of Moldova and abroad. He was awarded a diploma and a gold medal at the Info Invent 2009 international exhibition for his invention, the “Device for Treating Spinal Deformities.”

He is a member of the Orthopedic Traumatologists Society of the Republic of Moldova and the Pediatric Surgeons Association.
